Vivian Wiebe

Artist’s Statement

The beauty of nature… the love of family and friends… my painting… all of these energize my spirit. Painting is significant to my serenity, my energy, my fun. My paintings are stories of the beauty that captures me.

In working with the light, shadow and colour in nature, I have attempted to portray the beauty of God's creation and the joy I feel in being able to express my artistic gift.

Through exploration of watercolour and acrylics, I have tried to create realistic images that are both pleasing and stimulating to the viewer, as well as reflect the vigour and excitement with which I approach my painting. Beauty is displayed in simplicity, but with vibrant colour and warm rich light.

I like to think of myself as an artistic communicator, wishing to express the beauty and spirituality of our world. All my paintings contain elements of hope and love. Art is a language. Its purpose is to open a dialogue between the art and the viewer, touch an emotion, remember a special moment, or simply bring a smile to the face of the onlooker.

Having the opportunity and support to express myself through my art is a blessing.

About the Artist

Vivian Wiebe is an educator and artist living in Turner Valley, Alberta, with her husband Dave, and their little Shitzu-toy poodle Zoee. Her photographer son Ryan and his wife Hanneke moved back to Canada from the Netherlands, and her daughter Robyn lives in Calgary with her photographer husband Dave. Vivian’s children have blessed her with four grandchildren...Saul and Sage who live in Calgary, as well as Keira and Naomi, her little Dutch/Canadian granddaughters. Her children are a great blessing and source of inspiration to her.

Vivian has always had a desire to pursue her creative side. She began with her study of music early on, and as the years progressed, she became skilled in the making of porcelain dolls. Then Vivian began to study art, with a special interest in watercolour and acrylic painting. She works toward a goal of artistic excellence without excluding experimentation and personal expression. Vivian has become skillful and innovative in her use of colour, materials and ideas, using various techniques and styles. Her paintings demonstrate an attraction to colour, pattern and form. Vivian is drawn to the inherent luminosity of a finished watercolour painting as light passes through transparent layers of colour, as well as the vibrancy of acrylics. Her paintings are alive, and are seen as an expression of who she really is.

Vivian’s work has been exhibited in various art shows in Alberta, and her paintings are in collections in Canada, Europe, and the United States.
